So you’ve just joined Coinbase… great! Now it’s time to buy some cryptocurrency.

Click the appropriate link below depending on if you’re using the Coinbase website or the Coinbase mobile app.

Buying on the Coinbase Website

Buying cryptocurrency on the Coinbase website is really quite easy. Here’s how:

  1. First, sign in to your Coinbase account and click the “Buy/Sell” link next to “Dashboard” below the Coinbase logo.
  2. Make sure you’re on the “Buy” tab (it’s the default) which should look like this:

  3. Get started by selecting the coin you’d like to purchase: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, or Litecoin.
  4. Next, select your desired payment method.

Note: you will need to set up a payment method when you make your first purchase. You can do a bank transfer or wire, which take a bit of time and have a 1.49% fee, or a credit card, which is instant but has a 3.99% fee. If you have “fiat currency” in your Coinbase wallet you may also be able to use that.

  5. Then, input the amount of BTC, BCH, ETH, or LTC you’d like to buy using your local currency or cryptocurrency. For beginners, we recommend you use your local currency.
  6. Optionally, you can choose to repeat the buy at various intervals. If you’re just getting your feed wet with crypto, do NOT choose this option.
  7. Finally, confirm your order details are correct, then click the “Buy CoinName Instantly” button.

That’s all there is to it. Now go buy some crypto on Coinbase!

  5. Next, enter the amount of coin you’d like to buy in your local currency (recommended for beginners) or in a denomination of the cryptocurrency.
  6. Once you’ve done that, select the wallet you wish to have your funds deposited into, usually the default for the selected coin.

  7. Tap the “Next” or “Buy” button at the top right to get to the confirmation screen.
  8. After reviewing the order, tap ‘Confirm Buy’ and your purchase will be made.

That’s all there is to it. Please note that if you want to set up a repeating buy, you can do this using the Coinbase website.
